Re: 98 dakota.....

Maybe someone played an evil trick on you and disconnected your battery...

So what else happened? You say it won't start? Does it do nothing, click, or crank but not fire up when you turn the key? What's going on with it?

Re: 98 dakota.....

Sounds like major electrical trouble. I don't know what to tell you. I don't think you can fix it yourself though, you should get someone you know who is good with cars to look at it, and if they can't solve it, have it towed to a shop and get it fixed I guess.

Maybe someone else will know something here...

Re: 98 dakota.....

The first time the catalytic converter clogged up on my truck, I parked it, and went to try start it about 2 and a half hours later and it wouldn't fire up. Took me forever to figure out what it was. What I did was remove the pre-cat oxygen sensor, and stuck a metal bar and then a cordless drill inside to chew up the catalyst, or brick, that's inside, to make the truck run again. This is one possibility. I don't understand why your guages would give up on you though...

Keep us posted.

Re: 98 dakota.....

Tell your dad to try taking an oxygen sensor out and then crank it over, it just might work. I bet your exhaust is plugged.

I ended up having to rip my exhaust apart to fix all of this. Is your check engine light on, when you have the key on?

Re: 98 dakota.....

Might want to try taking the battery in to get tested, I know DC put in a 7 year battery in the dakotas, at least in mine, so it could be about time to replace that...

May want to check the insides of the battery connectors (the part that goes around the post). I had some corrosion building up between my connector and the terminal, so my truck wouldn't start.
