painting interior

I helped my friend paint his interior on a ford focus. We used Kylon Fusion paint. Its about $4-5 a bottel. Then we got some klear kote for the finish. You can get it at walmart or autozone or other places. Let it sit over night to dry.

Re: Painting interrior!!

You need to use spray dye's intended for INTERIOR's , krylon works good especially since he clear coated it. The BEST stuff to use is a dye bomb known as SEM Vinyl/Carpet dye , this stuff is costly at $10 a can. This product will adhere to any different surface and bonds with vinyl or leather when used properly. It uses acetone and naptha to slightly melt the vinyl surface and bleed the color into it. If you spray fabric it bonds to the fiber as if it was natural and feels natural as well same goes with vinyl dashes soft or hard it will bond to soft and be soft and flexible or on hard it becomes a chip and scratch restant finish thats actually more scatch resistant than the original surface. The best part is it doesnt need clear coat just normal vinyl treatment and a way you go.

Re: Painting interrior!!

Also, its a little more expensive, but you can go to Jc whitneys website, and in their products section they have intertior spraypaint made especially for interior, even the dash parts that arnt plasic,(forgot what the materials name is) but yea, it runs for about 15.99 - 17.99 a spray can and works extremely well and looks nice when done, if you take your time and spray several light coats till its completely covered it will look professionally done and you will like the results alot more.

Re: Painting interrior!!

i say if youre gonna do it, do it right. I helped my buddy do the dash, door panels, center consol, and vents of his cavalier and we used 15 coats (light coats like enve said), then clear coat after that and it looks like it came stock....yes it took about 2 weeks to get every thing done, but that includes all the sanding we had to do prior....pretty sweet

so the moral of the story is:
i got ur back markgase2000

Re: Painting interrior!!

Yea, agreed with GASE and markgase, definattly take your time, spray it with 2 coats and it will look like shit, honestly, and even if it doesnt, give it a month and you will want to respray it. Take your time, hold it a foot away, and spray with first coat. (kind of just dust over it a couple of times, dont hold and spray same spot) after this is done several times it will look alot nicer and more proffessionally done... hope that made cense... but yep, light coats are the key, thick ones tent to look poor quality and very shitty...

Re: Painting interrior!!

nooooo , lol you bomb it , by spraying a quick shot with a sweep and overlap every stroke. Its so thing but covers entire surface in one coat you need 20 coats to make it pure and solid. Also the naptha and acetone penetrates less agressively into the vinyl so it doesnt become pliable. Plasti-kote dye's are more forgiving but less permanent than the SEM dye I use. Plasti-kote contains acetone and xylene for adhesion.
