Question programming car alarm remote

alrite, my alarm remote is betting bad, ether it's running out of batteries or the remote is bad itself, but i'm going to change the batteries. is there some kind of programing for the remote or do you just switch the batteries with out a problem? this is to a first gen sl 93. if you do have to program it, how?

I have to do the same thing, and I was told that you can buy hte batteries at walmart really cheap and you just need to replace them. You don't need to reprogram it. However, someone did mention that some of the remotes have short term memory, in other words, you may only have 30 seconds or so to change the batteries.

Re: programming car alarm remote

the beep beep means the alarm is on, if you don't get the beep, then you have a problem with the alarm. try pressing it twice, maybe you have a different alarm system. alot of cars have two stage alarms.

You mean when you go to unlock/disarm you get 2 beeps. Well, unless the alarm had gone off then you will get 4 beeps. If you press to lock/arm you should get one beep. If you press the lock button again, you'll get the double beep plus a whoop. That's telling you that you have turned off part of your alarm. There are different parts of your alarm that you can have armed and disarmed at the same time. So, say that you have bad door triggers or know that you'll be in a very noisy area that could set off the impact sensor, well you can turn those parts off but still have the rest of the system on. Read your manual.

GOTO www.directed.com and you can download a PDF file of your alarm. Look under guides.

If it is aftermarket, all alarms will go off when you open the doors without using the keyfob. If it is OEM, my guess is either the switch in the door is bad or the disarm wire is faulty. They are very simple alarms to work on.
