Shifting Problems?

Well... I just bought another 95 GS, I know it has a few problems and was wondering if anyone might know what exactly they are. The speedometer does not work, Is the spedometer cable electric or manual. Second when shifting gears with the car off you hear a loud clanking noise when going into reverse. Does this means the transsmission is bad? If not maybe this does. When I let out the clutch in nuteral there is a crackling noise coming from the transmisssion???? Confused :x I thought maybe I needed a new transmission but then again it could be the throwout berring?

Re: Shifting Problems?

there are no synchro's for reverse. it is a 95, so there may be some inherent wear built into it. i have a 97 and it clunks into reverse. as far as the clutch squeaking, i would also say that it is just wear after time on the spring perhaps. you may want to look into a new clutch/pressure plate, or open it up just to be sure there are no fingers bent or anything...
