My 96 GC Limited seems like lacking the power. I don't know how it supposed to be because I've never driven another GC with V8. I feel like I am driving with 4 cylinder with 140 HP on it while it is V8 and 220HP. So I am asking all the ZJ V8 owners how your car responses compared to the specification. My car feels so heave when accelerating and doesn't feel like a V8 engine on it.

Re: Lack of the power for 96 GC Limited
I own a 94GC 5.2(249TC)lifted 3",31"tires and still kicks ass. What is your maintenance routine and any upgrades installed?. Are you stock or lifted?

No upgrades. I bought this car as a used last year. I haven't done any major tune-ups yet. It idles rough and the engine hesitates at the beginning.

Re: Lack of the power for 96 GC Limited
Sounds like a tune-up is at the top of the list.
This is what I'll been using for years: Checker's auto parts Plat Autolite plugs(opened to .040) USA made distributor cap and rotor(all brass terminals) 7.5mm plug wires as the 8mm wires are $$$$$ Stock coil Take your time to replace cap and rotor they're somewhat a PITA to replace. NOTE: Your JEEP is not a car.

Re: Lack of the power for 96 GC Limited
I had a tranny binding up on my Grand Cherokee and when the tranny was replaced it was AMAZING how much more power the thing had. The only realy symptom other than feeling a little sluggish was that it didnt always shift into overdrive. I had to take it to the dealer 5 times before they finally changed the tranny.

Re: Lack of the power for 96 GC Limited
My tranny's O/D took a dump at 74k mi. so I know what you mean. Had it rebuilt under warranty.
A Trans technician mentioned to disengage O/D while city driving that way the O/D doesn't work as hard. I've been doing this and seems to have more power, although doing that uses more petro. I guess there's always a pro and con for everything. |

Re: Lack of the power for 96 GC Limited
Check to make sure your tranny isn't just starting off in 2nd gear (sure makes the beast feel sluggish) - that happened to mine - turned out to be a faulty transmission control module.
