Question Rotating Engine to change spark plugs

Ok I'm not sure on how to do this. So you loosen the front two motor mounts then pry like hell with a metal bar to get it down. But if you loosen the mounts won't it roll all the way forward and hit something? And if it is hard to get it to rock forward won't it be hard to get it back up. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rotating Engine to change spark plugs

the bottom mounts and trans keep it from moving too far to hit anything

Undo top mounts then have someone push the car and when the motor is rocked as far forward as possible engage parking brake

Or if you look at the right Brace there is a hole a little further back then the hole that it is currently sitting in.

Rock the engine forward and slide the screw into that hole holding the rest f the dogbone.

Just take the bones out, push the car until the engine rocks all the way to the front. Apply parking brake and proceed to do what ever you need to

Re: Rotating Engine to change spark plugs

they have a special tool for pullin engine's forward...you take out the bones out n screw the tool into place, then tighten the tool n it pulls the engine forward...it looks like a V with a screw more towards the connecting point...or you could do wat the other guys said to do

That dude's correct. Look online for a GM Engine Pulling Tool. You can pick one up for about $30. It's a Godsend when changing plugs. Make sure to check if your year car needs it to come with the adapter.

Post Is Car in Park or Neutral

When the doing the pushing technique after loosening the engine mount bolts, is the car supposed to be in Neutral? I know it might sound like a dumb question but sometimes there is some play even when in park. Thanks.

No, if its in neutral the car is going to move and keep moving until you stop pushing.

Re: Rotating Engine to change spark plugs

does it really save time going through all that trouble to move the block maybe a couple of inches versus using some plyers and a 2 foot screwdriver to pry the plugs off? changes in 20 minutes tops.

Re: Rotating Engine to change spark plugs

I just did a set of plugs for a guy the other day. W/ the motor rocked forward I can reach all 3 in the back w/ no trouble. #6 can be a bitch becuase the O2 sensor is right in its way.

I'd say well worth the trouble, and really it is no trouble at all. 2 bolts and rock the car.

Re: Rotating Engine to change spark plugs

Yah, is a lot quicker than doing the map to get to number 6 without rocking the car.
