Re: Powerglide to 700R4

In my opinion the powerglide is a better trans, but the 700r can give you some better fuel economy and you can use any gear ratio with it.

Wel the powerglide is good for race applications but it can be good for the street... What gear ratio do you have?

Re: Powerglide to 700R4

go with the 700. i dont think in any way the powerglide is better. the only way it posibly is, and the only way my dads 67 chevelle can keep up with a car is because you only shift once. thats the oly benifit to it, but then that brings alog with it many other problems. you will accelorate faster with the 700, you will be able to run different gears in your rearend to accelorate even fast yet still be able to cruse on the highways at a very comfortable RPM and you will get good gas milage. i see no reason to keep the powerglide over a 700. unless you dont have to money for the swap. i am in the process of swaping over to a 2004R from my 350, my car originaly came with a powerglide that i swaped out the the 350. if i had the money ever old car i ever own/will own will get a overdrive swaped into it. i would say go with tht 700.

Re: Powerglide to 700R4

the powerglide is good for raceing obnly if it is built for it. not stock, they must be built extesivly.

Re: Powerglide to 700R4

well i bought the tranny for which i thought was a hellova deal. i got it for 350 bucks. now all i need to do is adjust the crossmember, get the driveshaft shortened, and im puting in a floor shifter so i need to get that. oh and the torque converter which im not getting a lock up cause theyre so damn expensive.

Re: Powerglide to 700R4

well umm 350 is a hella good deal. even with what you have to do still. adjusting the crossmember is no big deal, like i was talking about before i think you should just slide it back instead of cutting and welding, its alot easier. all you would have to do is maybe drill a couple new holes and your good to go. the driveshaft, i dont know how much that is going to cost you but its gotta be done. and yeah just you might want to concider putting on a aftermarket trans cool aslo cuz the non-lockup converter will create more heat. oh you do know about setting up the TV cable right. that must be done corectly or it will screw up the trans, and the overdrives are way different that a powerglide 350 or 400. totaly different setup. if you want let me know and i will give you a link to a place that will have everything you want to get it set up correctly. they make the best setup i have ever seen.

Re: Powerglide to 700R4

here this is a link straight to the page for the TV ststems. its comes with everything and good instructions. just pick what carb you have, and i think they also have them for TPI and stuff like that.
http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...BCAT&CATID=WA3
if you go the there home page they have all kinda of stuff and info on all sorts of stuff. but that TV cable and brackets and everything sets it up perfectly and is the best i have ever seen.
