car now 30X loud
My MX-3 behind the cat, there is the pipeing going toward the muffler
well that piping is rusted out, well the first portion is, also I can easly sway the midsection, it feels like it's loose in the back of the car. I guess I got to get a cat-back exhaust now... lol has anybody else have this problem?

I sure haven't...it's rusted through...like it's now disconnected from the rest of the piping?

I think the gasket might have gone, I have a MX-3 which was made in 12-91

that sucks dude. you probably gained some horse power with out the extra piping. but it probably sounds like crap too. I've never heard of anyone having that problem. yeah...sounds like a cat-back is a must...get a test pipe to replace your cat....then you'll probably get an extra 15 hp out of your exhaust.

with a test pipe will it still pass emissions? also with that happening to the piping it really sounds more like a car that's running on a track, strait pipeish.. lol I did put some fuel system cleaner in my engine and my car picked up some torque and HP.... this sudden increce on old hardware might also have done this.

with a test pipe, your car will be labeled a gross polluter, and you'll have to get a smog every year for like ten years....but who says you have to have your test pipe on when you take the smog? They sell them on ebay for like $15. Just take it off b4 you take the smog test, then put it back on.
I doubt that an increase in power could eat through piping, or make your midsection become loose. I've heard of engine swaps melting exhaust pipes, but never just a slight increase of power. But...I guess anythings possible, it all depends on the condition of your car b4 the power increase.

it's like i said... it can be because of age... also the car did sit around a good bit when the previous owner had it... this is probably why it's pretty rusted out.. the exhaust I mean. the rest of the car is great..

I took a look under the car today.... going down past the cat you have the 2 piece bracket the Cat half and the Pipe half, then you have the pipe... well the pipe half of the bracket and the pipe have seprated... due to it's completely rusted out.... going to get the Monza catback system and fix it...

the Monza Cat-back is great, I love it, Just got it installed this afternoon. It fits on the standard hardware, and includes all necessary parts. it sounds awsome, it is like a Ferrari sound, and it's pretty loud. Got some props crusin outside one of the local malls.

do you know what the measurements of the pipes are? is it large like 2.5"?

it's 2.25" to 2.5" didn't take a measurement and diffrent websites say diffrently... but the tip is 4" chromed (it's not a fruit shooter [aka those cylinder exhausts which you see on all the civics and most the eclipses]) .. the problem with the stock exhaust it that you have a 2.25"-2.5" port on the cat, and a 1.5" port one rest of the piping. the Monza cat-back it's all the same... the torque is stronger and the pickup is better. it even fells more powerful than without haveing any piping behind the cat... well to me, but it's not as loud as strait pipes.

You said it sounded like a ferarri? that's pretty tight...is it loud? Does it really make that big a difference power wise? usually you only get like 10 hp from an exhaust.

you usually get 10hp from a muffler change, but the monza system changes everything behind the cat. and as I said it gives you the right size pipe going from the cat... it also encludes a high flow resonator. so you get closer to 15hp... not alot more but it helps. another thing is that I swear my torque has gone up, well it feels more solid in the powerband.
P.S. the engine sounds more like this.... vroom.... vroom.... j/k
