im saying like almost 2X volume, with the same subwoofer, and the same wattage

Re: Sealed or Ported (Volume)

Not 2 times the volume overall but you will get more volume at the tuning frequency of the enclosure. If the box is built correctly you will have a very noticable gain.

#1 12' Alpine Type R in generic Sealed Box
#2 12' Alpine Type R in Alpine Ported Box (actually made my alpine)

would that be signifigantly louder?

Forgot to mention something...you said 2x louder. To achive 2x louder (speaking with a properly built enclosure) you will need to double the cone area or double the power.

Re: Sealed or Ported (Volume)

I noticed that you are also interested in Kicker subs. I have two brand new in the box Kicker 10" L5s that I will sell for 125.00 plus shipping. Never installed. If you are interested.

Re: Sealed or Ported (Volume)

Technically the ported will be louder at the tuning frequency. So if it is tuned to the frequency range that you like it will be louder...you will notice it. Every enclosure has it's good and bad points. The ported is going to be larger than your average sealed enclosure...keep that in mind if space is a consideration.

yea thats why im sticking with one 12 inch, because 2 in a ported just doesn't fit, the space near the back seat, in my trunk is 32 inches, while the box is 36

o yea, do you know of any 12 inch subwoofers, that have really high rms ratings, but are still affordable?

because the subwoofer doesn't really matter to me, but im buying the alpine type R mostly for the quality, and since it comes with a box, i was thinking in the future i could just upgrade the subwoofer instead of replacing everything

or should i find a place that can make custom boxes, and make a box tuned to like 28 or 30 hz?

Re: Sealed or Ported (Volume)

double power and displacement will only get you double the acoustic energy. To get the ears to hear twice as loud, you'll need about 10db more.

how many cubic feet do u have?
