Engine additives

I see alot of this stop smoke, and oil treatment stuff. Is there any additive to put in your motor that will help. I know there is a wide range of options, but are there any that work

to me i dont think any additive will stop a smoking car. For example if u have white smoke shooting out of the exhaust.. then the headgasket is blown and nothing will stop that other than replacing the gasket. Same thing with other stuff... oil burning... running rich... etc etc. Nothing fixes that better than replacing the problem or fixing it from a mechanic. Additives will probably stop something for temporary.. but not for long. Injector cleaner and sh*t like that works good. Its good keeping those things clean. Off topic... fix-a-flat never works. Dont buy that sh*t! just get it fixed at a gas station or shop and fix it for good... or just buy a new set of tires u can afford it like nothing.

well just because its white smoke doesnt mean its a headgasket problom..and most injector cleaner is just kerosene which is worthless and not good for injector o-rings ...you need to use something like a BG 44k or injector cleaner..basically something that isnt kerosene, just read what the product contains before you buy it !
as far as stop smoke and things of that nature...its worthless, all it does is dense your oil and attempt to form a " clog " around the leaking part(s)..this in return is not good for the rest of the engine as a whole.....so in that aspect sensei is correct..the problom needs to be addressed and fixed

ok yea white smoke doesnt neccessarily mean its the headgasket but it is the most common problem. Could be the cylinder has a leak and blah blah... just an example. anyway i forgot about BG44k... that sh*t is really good. I also hear those chevron techron bottles are real good.

yea all these additives are just temporary fixes and dont really do anything to solve the problem, but the best additive ive seen that lasts for years, is a product called Marvel Mystery Oil, people in the auto store i worked at, swear by that stuff.

i stand behind BG products all the way , but they are additives, not temp problom fixers..you still need to address the problom

i was watching this car show on tv and there is an additive that adds 5% more hp. They ran the car on the dyno to prove it and the car gained something like 7 extra hp or something. i thought that was pretty interesting.

I was an oil/additive tech for years. Any additive that claims to boost or fix your vehicle is junk. There are some that help with engine wear. I swear by Lucas. It helps with friction. It can be used with conventional or synthetic oil. It is used by Semi drivers who but millions of miles on. Slick 50 is junk. Claims to have teflon that bonds to your engine components. Your motor doesnt run hot enough to bond teflon. As for head gasket problems the easy way to tell is if there is fluid leaking from the exhaust or taste the oil off of the dip stick. If it is sweet you have antifreeze in it.

also if your oil has a white look to it there is antifreeze in it. i had the same problem years back it sux! btw lucas is the bomb: i highly recommend sea foam that stuff is wonderful especially on older engines. I heard octane boost works great if you want to add a couple ponies but i never tried the stuff myself.

I've used Rislone Engine Treatment a couple times, and it seemed to smooth out and quite down the engine a bit..

rislone is junk and terrible for your engine..i mean did you see how thick it was while you were pouring it in..thats just goo that blocks around seals and so forth...not reccomended

tranzlogic do you suggest anything beside lucas products. i have used lucus and they are excellent i dont doubt that. but have you tried anything else that is any good? btw i highly recommend sea foam (can get at napa and bmw dealerships)

It was just recommended by a couple people I know because they liked the effects on their cars. Personally, I didn't see enough good coming from it to keep using it.

redline you have to use with water and its not an additive to the coolent. i dont recommend it from personal experience
