HKS bov sound

ok, well, i got this video online, but i made it shorter for easier d/l times. I love that "flutter" sound that the supras make when they let off teh gas (their cbv) but i have never really heard that from an eclipse, until now. this clip is of the hks super sequential that's recirculated back into the intake. my question is this, is that flutter sound that THIS car makes produced from that bov? or is it the effect of the recirculation back into the intake?

the file is only like 80k. bad video but all i need you to do is hear the sound. http://dirtbike1128.tripod.com/hks-ssqv.wmv

thanks!

i know excactly what sound you are talking about and i dont think it has anything to do with the blow off valve or the car. Both my buddy and i have 97 eclipse GS-T's and both have greddy type S BOV's and stock tubos, but his makes the fluttering sound you are talking about and mine rarely does it, maybe every once in a while when i let off the gas, but it's very quiet. My BOV is routed back into the intake and his isnt. I had mine blowing off into the atmosphere and there was no difference in sound except quieter.

Re: HKS bov sound

the flutter is from blowing off boost from an underpowered gear setting... like if you are in 4th doing 40 mph and you are boosting 10psi and let off the gas. the volume isn't enough to make a hard blow because of the underpowered situation...

Re: HKS bov sound

ok, so the higher the boost the more "flutter"? i know that so many supras are boosted to around 30psi, so maybe thats why they so often have that flutter.

any other comments?

i got an hks ssqv on my eclipse, vented to air, it is loud...me and everybody within at least a block radius can hear the "flutter" you are speaking of.

Re: HKS bov sound

haha, well, i dont care how loud or soft it is, but i figure if im going to spend some $ on a 1g cbv, why not go for the hks and pamper myself a little!

Re: Re: HKS bov sound

ok, figure if you are boosting 30 psi you have to have a pretty tight spring. so when that spring is only releasing 15 psi in a less than WOT setting or you are acceling on the freeway not WOT, it will flutter a bit because it is so stiff. get it?

and i like the GReddy type-S over the HKS... but they are both heavily debated in here!!!

i have a type S on my GST and a HKS on my RST and to tell you the truth i really like them both there are some pro's and con's about them but each BOV is really nice!!!

here are the pro's and con's i have found so far!

Pro's
HKS: the valve is sucked open so you dont get boost leak at high PSI.

Con's
HKS: its has a hesitation before opening whether your boosting high or low and isnt a good BOV for low boost (thats why you get the fluttery sound).

Pro's
Greddy: good BOV for low and high boosted cars! sounds great whether boosting a lot of PSI or not!

Con's
Greddy: under high PSI it can leak depending oh how hard you
have the spring set and how much the spring can handle!

i really like both and would recomend either one anyday but IMO you should pick the right BOV with consideration of the pros and cons i listed...
