I recently had a test ran on my cat, and it showed it as being totally worn out, the honeycombs inside are busted out. I dont know alot about cat converters, but would this problem with my cat cause my truck to run lean? and loose power? my truck is a 95 s10 5 speed man. 4.3 vorted with 4wd

Re: Cat Converter
Does a blueish white smoke come out of your tailpipe when you start it?

Re: Cat Converter
not that i have noticed, its been clean.... but ive noticed a loss in power. i have a special exhaust done, i have it coming off a straight pipe to my muffler, and i have my muffler moved up closer to the engine and the exhause tips coming out in front of the passanger side rear tire, its pretty loud,

Re: Cat Converter
cause what happened to mine is that i blew the intake gasket and that eventually breaks down the honeycomb. that was on my 93.

Re: Cat Converter
so is blowing your intake gasket expensive?,, and does that cause you to loose engine power, cuz in my mind, the honeycomb of the cat is what helps give the engine backpressure which in turn gives you power? am i wrong in saying so?

Re: Cat Converter
there is a coating on the honeycomb that turns bad gasses into harmless ones. thats why if your honeycomb is shot, you fail emissions. and the actual gasket is not expensive, i dont know how much labor would be for that either but labor is never cheap.

Re: Cat Converter
it could also be ur head gasket. that may be why ur losin power. your compression may not be all that great cause fluid is gettin in where it shouldnt.

Re: Cat Converter
yeah. that would be a good idea. head gaskets on the 4.3's arent bad cause theres a decent amount of room to work with. well on my truck anyway. i wish all engines were like the old small blocks with a huge area to work in. like my 68 camaro.

Re: Cat Converter
yea i mean i agree that the 4.3 is more forgiving to work on space wise, my friend has a 2.2 and its tight. do you know about how much a new head gasket would run just for the part

Re: Cat Converter
just the head gaskets would be around 20 bucks and a gasket set is like 60 -80 depending on what u get. just look online at car parts stores and ull get a more precise price.
