Re: 302 in a falcon?

What model would that be?
302's are great,but i'd rather a 351 in any falcon.
Do us Ford fans a favour and get a good after market exuast system for that true ford sound. And if u live in AUS kill som commonwhores 4 me.What else are u planning to stick in that falcon? The agility of any car relies on the engine and the rubber, so some big boots will make it quick, somthing along the lines of 10 inch rears.

Re: 302 in a falcon?

I actually stuffed a 429SCJ in a 63 Falcon, and ran 10 sec 1/4's with it. I did have to do some firewall, shock tower, and front suspension work, but it was a screamer.

Actually my oldest brother and I bought it when I was in high school. It was a Rolling Chassis and an engine, without the engine installed. We did all the mod work to make it fit, and it was off to the races.

Weren't the 302s in OZ (Australia) really just destroked 351 Clevelands? At least the first ones. I mean I know in recent years they've used the 302 Windsor but when I've shopped around for old Aussie Falcons they come with 302 Clevelands.

It should be a decent motor. I just got a 64 Comet with a 289, and it pulls pretty well. No need for anything over a 302 in these little cars.

289 falcon

my first ride was a 65 falcon with 4 speed and straight pipes with headers, 2 barrel carb and traction bars, this little car had all most as much power as my stock 84 mustang 5.0 gt. they kick but in the bottom end, so enjoy.............. this little car will smoke
maybe bore it
4b carb
some traction bars
cam
port it yourself, not a hard process with a drimal tool
stiffin the frame
cold air box of some sort , maybe
You could be pushing 225 to 250 or more
your bottom end would be wild, this car has even less weight than mine.

You're right, 302Cs are destroked 351Cs, also has small chamber heads/ports. 351Cs had big or small-valve variants. The torquey street setup used to be 351 crank using big valves on 302 heads for a cheap high-compression engine (about 11.4 or whatever it was) as factory big-port heads were almost overkill

Clevelands were sold here from late 1970, made here from 1971 until '82, stocks ran out in '84 when V8s were sadly dropped. From 1991 Windsors (302 & later 347) made a comeback until 2002. 5.4 3valve SOHC & 5.4 4valve DOHC 'Boss' then superceded the Windsor

Recently a 3valve alloy Cleveland aftermarket head has been released here, its reportedly an excellent head. Some US guy recently used this head to win a 'world 6-litre (or 400cid?) dyno shootout' competition in America

I've been working on Falcons a long time and unless you're building a racer, the 302 is plenty of muscle for this car. However, the HO 302 used in the Mustangs just before they went to the 4.6 liter are going to have the roller cam, which is very significant in horses. Especially with the fuel injection! The 302 has a better bottom end (factory wise) than the 260 or 289 due to the rod bolt size. Did this Falcon come with the V8 from the factory? If not, you may want to consider beefing up the suspension. Be careful and don't bottom out the front suspension when you are at high speed (100mph) at the bottom of the hill and immediately climbing another hill. Get's hairy if your front end bottoms out!
