My clutch fluid is leaking out somewhere(i suspect its leaking at the slave cylinder in the tranny), and as its done over 112k miles i wanna change both cylinders out.
1, what is the best/easiest way of changing the master & slave cylinder 2, do i need to drain my tranny fluid out? (so i can buy some more fluid if needbe) I haven't worked on a clutch system before, so any help would be greatful. Cheers, Aaron. |

you do not have to drain your tranny fluid out, but if you haven't changed the tranny fluid in 35K miles, I would do so.
To take the slave out, you have to remove the tranny. Then there is only 2 bolts holding the slave in. Go get a GM 145 Slave(for 01/02 cars). Have fun taking the master out. I had to undo the bolts to the brake master and ziptie it to the strut bar on my car. it took me about 6 hrs (breaks included) to take the old master out and new master in because of the lack of space on the 98 cars to do so. I also never did it before and was doing it outside in 100 degree Texas heat.

Ok, thanks Darkblue.
Looks like a weekend job! I'm gonna double check that my parts store has ordered me the later cylinder. Btw, how long is a stock clutch supposed to last? mines still holdin up even with all the highway miles on it. |

yes, make sure its the 145 Slave. A stock clutch can last a while if you are nice to it. Especially highway miles. While you have the tranny out, take a look at the clutch and see how it looks. as long as it looks alright, I wouldn't mess with it unless you're going to start adding power. If so, go ahead and get the Z06 clutch or spec stage1 or 2.
