Really Weird Question
I have been looking up more on the motors lately and read a post about boring out a rotary. I had a theoretical question for you guys. Does changing the combustion chamber recess size change the engine at all? It seems to me that it would. If bored out there could be more air pushed into the engine. Is this logical?

Re: Really Weird Question
Boring out a rotary engine? No such thing. Perhaps you have this confused with porting.

Re: Really Weird Question
I think he means machining out the recess on the surface of the rotor?

Re: Really Weird Question
if you could do that your compression would drop.

Oops my bad. Yeah that's not exactly a good idea.

Re: Really Weird Question
Yeah I meant the recess on the rotor. It was just a thought I had. So changing the size on it at all it bad for performance? What if it were possible to decrease the size then? I am speaking hypothetical.

Re: Really Weird Question
I guess it could theoretically increase compression, but then it would change the "shape" of the combustion chamber. I think it's there because it needs a "concentrated" place to combust.

Re: Really Weird Question
Ok I was just thinking of something, because in an old post someone was talking about boring out a rotary and it got me thinking.

Re: Really Weird Question
there he goes with the boring out a rotary again...

Re: Really Weird Question
I never asked about it before Soyo, I was just thinking how to get more displacement, compression. Whatever it is to increase performance.

Re: Really Weird Question
I meant you said it in the first port, then they said you can't bore it, then you just said it in the post before mine... rotarys aren't displacement engines really, bout all there is to it

Re: Really Weird Question
to truely bore out a rotary you would have to over bore the rotor housing which would make it junk and find overbore rotors to match the the housings that now serve no purpose.

Re: Really Weird Question
yeah I know, never plan on doing it just having a thought in physics class about it. So the only thing to do to an engine when its apart is port it. Right?

Re: Really Weird Question
yea, heres a page that will give you info on ports if you need it http://home.iprimus.com.au/bluey3/portsPage/ports.htm

Re: Really Weird Question
you can upgrade the seals inside the engine and you can upgrade the rotor housing to third gen specs.
