Rear Humming

Hey, I have a 1996 Taurus, I think it's a pretty good all around car, but lately I have been frustrated. A humming noise, almost a squeak, originating from the rear driver side, has been driving me nuts. It only happens if I am not braking and if i am turning, or even just steering lightly to the right. I have changed, the rotor, brake pads and the caliper. The problem persists (I'm starting to think it's a suspension problem). I am also getting, a Service Engine Soon warning. I know the problem isn't the Idle Air Control Motor, because it's been changed recently, the error code says it's an EGR problem, which can mean three things, EGR Valve, Backpressure Sensor or Vacuum Silonoid. The EGR is opening and closing ok, so I'm thinking backpressure sensor. Has anybody ever had these problems. Thanks

Re: Rear Humming

Is the code P0401. If it is change the DPFE sensor(delta pressure feedback EGR sensor. The noise sound to me like a rear wheel bearing. Does it come and go as you turn left and right slightly. If it does try to figure which side it is louder on. The rear wheel bearings are not too bad to to replace, especialy if it rear disc.

[quote=irish30] DPFE sensor(delta pressure feedback EGR sensor).
Irish, my acronym glossary says DPFE stands for Differential Pressure Feedback EGR. Which is correct? If I'm wrong I'll make the correction in the glossary.Thanks.

Re: Rear Humming

This is Fords' name for it. Is it correct, That is up to you. This just what I was told it was called in college. Either way Ford doesn't seem to be able to make that lasts.
