regulator question

I was just wondering if anybody knew if my voltage regulator was built into my alternator, or if it was just under my hood????? 1988 2.8 V6

Ok thats what I was thinking also, but my lights are flickering in the car, and was thinking that that is what it was, but my alternator is working great, so I am not sure where else to check......

it might just be a loose connection in the wiring if your lights just flicker
