SmokinOdum, gets smoked
Well, as an unbiased Maxima owner I had to post this in all fairness (if you can call this fair) but even the sun shines on a dog's a$$ every now and then:
Alright, You know the Maxima. Time for it to be humbled. After we beat Andre's Stang GT, he brought his friend out tonight to get revenge. The victim: 2k2 Maxima w/ CAI and 18" SSRs. The winner: Mach One Mustang w/ Mak Offroad X-Pipe exhaust, Nitto DR's, dynoed 290 whp. Camera car: 1997 BMW M3 w/ Benfer Racing CAI. I knew this would happen but I ran for fun and got pulled to the tune of 4-5carlengths or so. I looked up online, and apparently those Mach One's have been hitting some nice times. This LINK says 13.1 @ 107mph stock Anyways here are the vids, we ran it well past 120mph. Stoplight You can see remnants of the huge smokey burnout the Mach 1 did before he lined up for the stoplight run, lol. 1st Gear Roll

I'm surprised. I'm surprised the camera didn't run off and leave both of you.

If so, that M3 was the same M3 that got smoked by the Maxima on the other videos that I posted here, so it isn't anything as fast as one would think. Go look back a couple of pages and you'll find it.

But the 97 as you stated has 240hp according to BMW (who btw, are known for underating the power of their cars) and the Max with 255 should be able to take it, not easily as the 6spd did in the video that is posted but nevertheless it will still take it.

Beemer RWD vs. Maxima FWD. I just returned G35 Sedan loan car and I think that my I30 has a quicker off the start responce than the RWD G. On the acceleration, the 3.5 has more guts than my 3.0 - no question there. But all things being equal, I think the launch will go to a FWD vehicle. The pulling force vs. a pushing force. I'm sure there's a word for that. Just one mans observation.

You have more traction in an RWD car on dry pavement and the opposite on wet pavement (FWD has the advantage). I think it has to do with the fact that the transfer of weight/load on the driveshaft and the way the engine is mounted in an RWD car as opposed to the way it is mounted in the FWD car (I believe it is longitudinally for RWD <someone correct me if I'm wrong). Also when you boost RWD can handle more and it still get better traction than the FWD, with no chance of torque steer.

Re: SmokinOdum, gets smoked
RWD > FWD for launches if the driver is skillled.
During acceleration the weight shifts to the rear, thus providing you more traction to the rear wheels.
