I just got an exedy organic single plate clutch kit and 11.9 lb act flywheel installed in my CRX Si with all new bearings (and rear main seal too
) and I've heard lots of stories about clutch break in periods. I've heard that you should drive it easy until 500-750 miles or more, shifting at 3k rpms. Okay, now I just drove home and to work (had to change cuz the shop's pretty much destroyed my water by-pass but fixed it... and got dirty so had to change)... about 40 something miles, and I have shifted at 4k rpms and that seems pretty low in the rpms. But I got a Jacobs Ignition with 8.5mm wires (pretty freakin' high spark) along with more bolt-ons and stuff (i/h/e, pulleys, etc.) than I can type without getting arthritis, so cruising rpms are generally around 3k rpms anyway (like 55mph in 5th). Just wondering if somebody can give me a straight up answer with regards to SOHC performance. I can already feel the difference. I thought about taking off work today just to drive 500 miles, change the oil, rip the tires apart and go buy some new ones as needed... however, I'm too practical and my wife would kill me... haha... Thanks in advance, y'all...

sorry... question is, do I have to wait 500 miles, and do those miles have to vary between city and highway? I guessing they should... I'm just ignorant about it cuz my cars usually don't last longer than the clutch... gotta love Honda

I guess you should kind of take it easy, but the clutch and flywheel should have a waranty, so i wouldnt worry about it to much

Do not abuse the car for the first 500-750 miles. Try to shift under 4,000rpm
You could contact Exedy for an exact break-in period. |

I think they recomment city miles, where you actually use your clutch. Just going on the highway and cruising 500 miles isn't really going to break in the clutch, considering you'd probably be staying at one speed. Someone correct me if im wrong, im just taking an educated guess.
