Question key programming?

I just bought a used ford renger and it came with only one key, I bought another key but need to know how to program it. Can anyone help on how to do this myself, if possible, or do I have to go to the dealer.

PLEASE HELP!

Re: key programming?

it is a complex process wich requires two original keys to program a third.some dealers or aftermarket shops have the tech to program it for you.unfortinally you can't do it with only one key yourself

Re: key programming?

I have a 2002 Ford Focus. I baught it used with just a couple thousand miles on it. It came with two keys that both worked. One of the keys began giving me trouble intermittantly and then after a few weeks gave out.

So how do I fix the second key? If I need two working keys doesn't the dealer also need two working keys?

Re: key programming?

The Ford dealer has a scan tool that interfaces with the PATS system and programs the key.
