Timing belt/bent valve
K heres the problem, i was driving my 1988 Honda Crx si and it just stalled so i took it to Honda and they sed the timing belt snapped, i get that fixed and then the car was running like shit, so i took it back and they sed one of the valves was bent from the timing belt snapping, so i took it to another shop to get a diff price and they told me it would cost like 1 g canadian, but then they sed if i took them just the cylinder head it would only be $280 heres my question how do i take the cylinder head off, like what do i take with me and stuff like that and also what else do i need to fix the car after there done with the cylinder head, like do i gotta buy new seals and stuff,
if anyone can help it would help alot. |

Re: Timing belt/bent valve
short version, go buy a manual, you will need it
you will need a head gasket (get one for a 95 civic EX) $50 head bolts or ARP head studs (ARP are reusable, stock are not) $100 I think thats it.

Re: Timing belt/bent valve
Autocratic, I'm pretty sure that the D-series head bolts are reuseable, not stretch bolts.
What motor do you have? If it's the stock A6, you can toss on a vtec cylinder head. I would never pay to have head repairs done, because of the ready availability and inexpensiveness of replacement parts for these older motors. You can get them on ebay for around $80-90 USD, and if you can do the work yourself, you can keep the new timing belt, and get vtec. You'll need a new head gasket, but that's really it. You keep your dist, injectors, plugs, wiring harness, etc. It's also a great chance to change your water pump, oil pump, and front main seal. It's not too tough to do if you have any experience with it.

Re: Timing belt/bent valve
i just burnt a valve on my 91 hb dx and i bought a newer used head on ebay for 85 bucks shipped. be careful though make sure you ask if the valves in the new head are bent. i didnt ask and ended up with two bent valves. i reused the head bolts and have had no problems in the department. you'll want a new head gasket and might want to replace the intake manifold gasket. you can also just go to the auto store and ask for a new head gasket set, the whole set will include everything you need. if your leaving the timing belt on try to make sure you leave it on the cam gear. it will keep time that way.

ya, i would just get another head, you can usually get them for prety reasonable prices. then all you will need to get is a head gasket set, or you could get away with head gasket and vlave cover gaskets(but i reccomend getting the intake and exhaust gaskets to). It took me and a friend a days work to switch the head and have it running again.
