97 escort, radio stays on

Just purchased a 97 wagon but noticed a couple of problems with it. When you turn the key off the radio stays on, and you can pull the floor shift(automatic) into gear without the key being on or having to step on the brake pedal. Is this the way it is suppose to work?? thanx. wnk.

Re: 97 escort, radio stays on

sounds like a short, or someone has tried to re-wire it and f*cked up...check ur pos wire from ur stereo and make sure its going to an accessory wire instead of a "hot" wire..as for the shifter, I think thats an electronic switch...not sure

Re: Re: 97 escort, radio stays on

well, if its the standard stereo, yeah it might be a short or someone fucked with it. as far as the shifter, its not electric, I did it to me car on purpose cuz I hated having to have the key in and it sounds like they did to. but theres a small lever underneath the console right by the shifter that when you step on the brake in moves it, and I pinned a cut off nail inbetwwen that lever and something to keep that lever on so I didnt have to step on the brake, they might have done that or that lever is just stuck or broke.
