stackable amps?
ok ive seen amps that were stackable in alot of the show cars and spl competitions... Being a musician, I know they have amps for pa systems and stuff and i was wondering if this is the same thing? They seem alot cheaper and they have more power output.( you can get a 960w x2 or 1930w x 1, two fans two heatsinks, and a built in sub-crossover...for 500$ new! imagine what a good used one could go for!)
Here is a few of the amps for example... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...ER%20AMPS/d=tp anyhelp would be greatly appreciated! micah ps...search for american audio at the top of the results....those seemed to be the best. |

Re: stackable amps?
We are taking home audio to car audio its different in many ways. One main one your power 120V AC and 12v DC. Another is durablity a car amp will take the jars of driving and you home audio amps will not. Another when you convert power from 12vdc to 120vac you will get lots of hmmmm and the possiblty of feed back to your deck causing it to blow up.

Re: stackable amps?
Probably the home audio you thought of but these car really dont go anywhere and there is usually a good source of 120vac at shows. Also it can be done but you would have to buy audio filters and a gound loop isolator. Im not saying it cant be done but it would be cheaper to just get amps made for cars

Re: stackable amps?
well first what are you going for, spl sound competion or just some good stonge bump in the trunk. cjz89 is right the power converters will cause a lot of hassle with hummm's and buzzz'es. i would suggest leaving the home amps in the house and stick with the car amps in the car. if you do everything the right way you shouldn't really need more than 1000 watts. i mean thats a ton of power. if your going for spl competion then you'll want high out put alternator's extra batteries and expensive subs sound deadining tons of thick wire capasitors, the last thing you'll want to do is skimp on the amp to save a few bucks. thats just my thoughts
