Washer Fluid Assembly - '58 Beetle

I need help with a repair for the Washer Fluid Assembly ('58 Beetle).

Does anyone have knowledge about the pressure valve from the fluid container to spare tire?

Someone told me that I need to have a link between the spare tire and the fluid container in order for the mechanism to work.

Please advise.

The windshield washer reservoir was a plastic container that mounted on the inside of the spare tire. Two nubs fit through the lug nut holes and were held in position by two plastic wedges. There was a short rubber hose that connected the bottle to the spare tire filler valve. The spare tire air pressure is what supplied the pressure to the washer bottle. It would be damned near impossible to get a replacement bottle for a car 46 years old! By now, the steel in those old cars have been melted-down at least a couple of times to make newer cars. Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to find a windshield washer reservoir from a newer (1965-1974) VW Bug and modify it to fit inside your spare tire. I believe that the '58 had a different type wheel lug nut design.

Have you ever thought about searching the wrecking yards for a recently wrecked old VW Bug or SquareBack? They all used the same bottle.

*Re: A link in the air line>>>There is none. The cap, which the air line connect to, was designed to not allow anymore than a 30 psi drop in pressure in the spare tire.
