Re: do deloreans corrode?

As far as I know the body panels won't corrode, but things like subframes and underbody stuff like that will. Best to apply a liberal amount of undercoating and perhaps even wax treatment if you plan on driving in the winter.

do you know what alloy stainless steel the body is made out of? also, does the delorean have a seperate chassis, or unibody construction?

Re: do deloreans corrode?

The body panels are made from Alloy 304. Also, the Delorean is not a unibody vehicle. It has a frame that was coated (usually badly) from the factory with a layer of epoxy, I believe, though many people use a better rubberized or vinyl coating if they restore the cars.

Might I recommend www.projectdelorean.com to you - the guy is customizing while restoring, but it gives you a good look at some of the Delorean's construction.

ok i'll check out that website. i know 304 stainless steel can pit slightly due to excessive road salt. 316 stainless steel is pit resistent & that's why it is usally used for marine applications...

Interesting, I didn't know that.

I wouldn't recommend a Delorean for daily driver winter use, but with proper care it's certainly capable.

As I recall, the body panels came with a 25 year warranty against rust. Obviously, it won't do much good since you can't exactly get warranty work done on Deloreans anymore.
