I am going to need new tires soon and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I wanna stay as stock as possible and not got any bigger on the wheels, so I guess 16" is for me. I have a set of Michelin MXV4 pluses on there right now and they are not bad, but are expensive to replace......any suggestions on other brands?

If you have 17's you can go with Eagle RSA but they wear quickly

Back in March, I put BF Goodrich Traction T/A's on my '98, replacing a crapped-out set of Dunlop SP Sport A2's (which themselves replaced the junky Michelin MXV's that came with the car). So far, I like them very much - seemed loud at first, but they've quieted down, and they seem to stick pretty well (drove from Detroit to Milwaukee yesterday, through several thunderstorms/downpours, and they did great). Will probably put a set on my wife's GTP in the fall...

Why didn't you like the Michelin's ? - I've got about 48,000 miles on mine, lots of tread left and they get me through snow and rain OK, and handle well on dry roads.

I don't like mine, I break traction in turns (with TC) off the time, I have a shifted belt in the rear tire, the side walls are cracking and I only have 30K miles on em...and they refuse to hold air pressure.

Overpriced tires too...

Pretty much what RoraStar said. Cracking, squealing loudly even during low-speed turns, poor traction, constantly having to check tire pressure/put in air, etc. At $130-$150 (US) ea., versus around $90 for the Traction T/A's, the T/A's are a far, far better tire - very sticky (just drove home in a pouring rainstorm - if this doesn't stop soon, I'm going to need to trade the Aurora in for an ark :-)

I am on my 3rd set of tires with my car, and I'm happiest with the Coopers I picked up this last time over any of the others. I think I only paid $80 apiece. They are more of a touring tire though. They occasionally lose their grip if I punch it in the wet- though they worked perfectly in the snow. I don't lean into the corners enough to tell if you'd have trouble there enough in general.

I had the stock size Kuhmo Ecstas from the tire rack and hated them with a passion, not to mention they wore out in about 35,000 miles. I guess that's what you get for paying $50/tire. The ones on it when I got it were goodyear Eagle GAs. They were OK, just got so they shook so damn bad even before the tread wore out.

I have not used these but I was looking into getting the Yokohama Avid V4S. They have a 60,000 mile warranty and 500 treadware rating. Plus an AA traction rating. Their V rated and only $81 at tirerack. Otherwise I would look at the traction T/A. $91 and only H rated but similar treadlife to the Avid V4S and AA traction rating as well.

I replaced my MXV's with SP Sport A2's. Liked them at first, but they started to get loud, and traction started to be a problem, first in winter, then in rain (couldn't hardly put my foot lightly on the gas without getting "low trac"). After 40K miles they, too, were junk. Went back to Tire Rack reviews and re-read them, and people were saying the same thing (only most reviewers got less miles than I did).

Stay away from the cheapy Kumho's. I have a co-worker who put the Yokos and then the Kumho's on his '94 Altima, because they were cheap - well, they only lasted 20k and 30k mi, respectively (and he's not an aggressive driver).

I really really like the Traction T/A's and recommend them highly. Of course, they've only been on my car for 2 months, so I can't speak to the long-term quality, but I had Touring T/A's on my previous cars and they were fine to 50+k miles...
