Hey all im new here and have a problem. I have an 89 escort lx that has a bad cylinder. I can get an 89 tempo from a friend for like $50 and was wondering if the motor would swap out with my car? Or i can get a motor that is believed to be a 89 escort GT for $150 from a junkyard and was wondering if that would swap out with mine? also if they fit would they bolt right up or would there have to be significant mods? thanks for the help in advance.

Re: escort / tempo motor swap
Either way you go, you'll need to swap the harness and computer. Unless you just use another lx motor. Stay away from the Tempo motor.

Re: escort / tempo motor swap
The tempo will give you less power, go with the G.T. but your probly going to have to do some adjustments if you do

Re: escort / tempo motor swap
You can use the Tempo. It'll fit just fine. Some may say it'll give you less power, but an '89 Escort pulled 90 hp @ 4600 rpm. The Temop 2.3 HSC pulled 98 @ 4400. The Escort also has lower torque, around 106 @ 3200. The Tempo has 124 @ 2200. I drove a Tempo with 254000 miles on it, and it would still spin the wheels up, so don't say it has less power.
