Hi guys,
I wanted your honest opinion from the 240sx pros regarding the comsetics looks of converting a convertible 240sx to a R33/R34 Nissan skyline. The reason why I'm starting this thread is that I've been living in Japan for about 1.2 years and of all the cars I've seen, it would be great to see it a skyline as a convertible. The 240sx is a little narrower and shorter than the stock skyline but the body lines seem close enough to match and with a few strokes of the torch, it should work out ok. Also, the 240sx is an awesome platform to start off with, not to mention a beautiful looking cockpit!! I've already purchsed enough parts to build 3 skylines: 1 R34 GTR 1 R33 GTR 1 R34 4 door sedan Well the GTR's won't be GTR's until I get the engines and transmission and other parts that go with it. But as far as body panels, lights and what not, I've already got those. I've thought about importing but after looking into it, it's just way to expensive. Thanks for your opinion everyone!!! Drive safe! |

how come just cause he lives in Japan (supposedly), he gets your respect? yet anyone else asking this same question gets flamed?
i'll give the same answer. just buy a Skyline, and get the roof professionally chopped off. it's easier, and probably cheaper then changing an entirely different car to look like it.

Re: conv. 240sx nissan skyline R33/R34 full conversion
Dude, did you buy three cars or just parts? I think it will be tight as hell to transform a 240 into a skyline cuz it is lighter, and smaller and with the same arsenal you might even keep up with them except for the little detail of the top notch AWD, which might be compensated with the weight saving.
Checkout the bottom of the posts 240 to r33 conversion , some guy was given a link to a dude in Florida with a 240 with an R33 conversion, it was tight. Keep us posted with the pics. By the way, would you consider selling the R33 lights and keeping the R34?????? |

thanks guys,
I appreciate your opinions. There are tons of silvia and 180sx, at ridiculous prices!! That's the truth! It would be great to buy one and import it back home, but that would cost too much. I'd invite everyone to come and visit Japan. There's alot more to see than cars!! But the cars are still worth the viewing!! Now for cost, it's acutally cheaper for me to do the conversion on a convertible 240sx than chopping the top off a skyline. The big cost reason is I want to do this when I go home next year (Oahu). It's much more cost efficient for me to do it this way than to buy a skyine and import it. I've already had a R32 GTR but I sold it due to hail damage we had this past summer I live north on the Honshu island and we got some crazy hail storms this past winter. That's just the way it is. Keep me posted with your opinions!! I'll have some pics up soon with some of my parts!!! Oahu, island boy's coming home!! |

Re: conv. 240sx nissan skyline R33/R34 full conversion
Quote:
"The roof of a conventional car is essential to the stiffness of the chassis. The roof helps keep the car from twisting and bending. Building a car without a roof is a bit like building a suspension bridge without the cables. As such, the bottom part of the structure of a convertible has to be stiffened considerably. Heavy reinforcing brackets have to be added to the body of the car. This is why convertibles often weigh more than their fixed-roof counterparts. If you were to cut the roof off of your car, you'd find that the body would twist a lot, especially if you were to do something like, say, drive diagonally over speed bumps. Eventually, the car would develop all sorts of squeaks and rattles and exhibit some poor handling characteristics. It's important for convertibles to have an especially sound structure to make up for the lack of a roof. " source: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/convertible1.htm I guess a silvia convertible would be nice, but I don't like convertibles that much. They weigh a car down and aren't as aerodynamic as their fixed-roof counterparts. For daily drivin in the summer though by the beach it'd be tight.

i don't know about for sissies, theres plenty of top-down cars i'd love to whip around, a 427 cobra for example. 'course thats a raodster and not a convertiable (unless you get a hard top)

This should be it, has the pic, some of the guys think it is corney but I though it was tight as hell, just needs a wide body kit and bigger wing. Yo Rola, when you go back to J-land, I might send you with an order of some parts like head lights and the sort and give you a little extra on the side for the hassel if thats cool . All I know is in around 2-4 months I have to decide what front end goes on my 95' 240, and some prospects are the 98' 240 front, R33', did actually consider the Mazda 6 or Integra type R headlights, but I think I will scratch that. I have no front bumper, beam, head lights, so either way I might as well go with upgrades since I'll have to buy something. |
