2002 Astro not cooling in rear

My 2002 Astro just went out of warranty and the rear air is blowing hot air. I checked the fuses and circuit breaker and all are ok The front cools great and I don't think it is a freon issue. Does the van have a expansion valve or electric valve to allow the freon to the rear? If so where would I find it. I'm a commerical HVAC tech and know buildings and some cars but the van with the rear a/c I don't.

I have the same problem with my 1999 Astro and I found out that There is a expansion valve in the back inside the case of the a/c. You can get the part from chevy for $70 or parts store like I did for $31. Ihave fix yet but I talk to a freind that work at a chevy dealer and acouple truck ( big rigs) mech. and said the same thing about the rear air the trucks are same way. Hope this help. Good luck

I pulled the back panel but the cooling coil has screws coming from the reverse side. I see the hot gas and suction lines going into a block but do not see a expansion valve. Any help would be appreciated.

I did my this weekend and works great. Here it is. You get out the freeon and take the rear 3rd seat out of the way. Take the side panel off and out the way. loosen the side colliar for the air duct and get it out of the way. Under the van loosen the nut and a/c lines pull off the bottom of the unit. Take the unit out of the van. Take the screws out and break open the unit ( there two halfs ) pull coil unit out down on the bottom of unit black insulatation wrapped around the expansion value. then replace it put back together. Took me about 2hrs or so to do it. hope that help if need more just asked

Re: 2002 Astro not cooling in rear

Hi, I'm new. Thanks for having me.
I was searching before I asked and found this post.

My air in the back is blowing warm, but when I took the vent looking panel off in the rear to expose the unit, I could feel two lines in front really cold and two more behind them really warm. Could this be an expansion valve problem?

Re: 2002 Astro not cooling in rear

Thanks for the help everyone. I just went ahead and bought an expansion valve on this website. The cost was only $2.99

I thought that was pretty cheap.
