BMW-Williams FW-24 Project...

Well since I got rid of the NR and the GT3 is drying I will concentrate on the other two projects I have.

So here we are... Lets see if I can successfully destroy this beautiful kit

I got the kit from HLJ couple days ago with studio27 upgrade set. Since then I have been doing some research on the car and working on the rear end. I noticed there are no CF included in this kit which I think is a big miss. (the full view has CF but at 4300 yens) So I ordered the SMS CF templates and couple sheets of CF paper. I wont touch anything cf until they arrive.

While looking at the manual I noticed it said use x-34 metallic brown for the calipers. I though that didnt make sense, so some researh showed that it was not exactly that color. They are actually dark anodic with burnt metal tint to them. I have pictures from the pits and the calipers actually look gloss black! So I decided to use a mixture or dark anodized gray and burnt metal from testors.

Second think that didnt compute was the color of the car tamiya indicated. TS-26 Pure white and TS-51 Racing blue (telefonica blue). I know williams doesnt use pure white but a shade of it, and I coulndt find any TS-51 here in Turkey. another thing is that telefonica blue is not the same shade as the williams blue anyways so I decided to call BMW here in Turkey. After some talk and annoying them for hours, they agreed to mix me the colors of the F1

These are solvent based acrylic automotive paints. Now I need to find out how to use it in an airbrush They are Glasurit brand.

Until I figure these out I will build the disks/calipers and other stuff. Here is how the disks looked like after Studio27 photoetch parts added.

after priming and XF-19 Sky grey for the sides.

Masked the sides with 1 mm masking tape and sprayed XF-24 Dark Gray

Started putting Gunze Neo liquid mask on the faces

Finished disks. The center is a mixture of Titanium and brass...

Disks finished...

Out-of-topic: toughbeard.com ... Is it yours?

End of the break.

Nice breaks!

And nice shine on the exhaust! Is it Model Master metalizer?

Re: BMW-Williams FW-24 Project...

They didn't tell you the BMW or Glasurit codes, did they?
You're off to a good start here. Keep the momentum going.

Well is as far as I can take the brakes before the cf decals arrive.

The brake carriers are painted dark anodized gray, calipers are burnt metal, and the center hub is titanium. Studio27 photoetch part rest in the center is in the original color. the screws on the disks are aluminium.

The molded brake line was removed and made from coated (polished aluminium) copper wire.

AP decal was applied over the Studio27 Photoetch part and seated in place using microsol...

Enjoy...
