Speed Limiters on a camaro !?!?!

Hey all you camaro owning people =D , New to this forum.
I've had my 1992 RS 25th edition now for about a month and I haven't really pushed it to the max. So just a few days ago this little punk in a honda civic reved up on me then buzzed off with his little fart cannon. I said what the hell , mashed it out , flew past him until...I hit 110mph. my car kicks back down to 90 mph. My highest rpm point during that was 2800 rpm , at 110 mph. Why the hell would any one put a speed limiter on a camaro ? no sense..anywho , My question is how can I tune it without haviong to replace it to gain more speed out of my camaro ?
Or will I have to resort to chip replacement ? It was really sad when a little 4 banging honda civic takes out a camaro -_-'

350 TPI - automatic - HP air intake system , weight reduction , removed a/c system and compressor , light weight pulley kit , tranny fluid cooler , dual exhaust. ZEX 50 Z - R16's.

Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Happy racing =)

P.S - Yes a 350 GM 4 bolt main , Was swapped with the original 305 , which had 150K on it and was dying O.o

Re: Speed Limiters on a camaro !?!?!

The camaro L98 engines werent supposed to have speed limiters.. Did you get all the associated hardware? like ECM and prom and all that?

Are you sure its a speed limiter thats causing your problems

I think they all had limiters, even the firebird formula 350 had it. I'd go with a hypertech thermomaster chip. I think you can get them for like 125 or so now. It's the best chip you can buy for a third gen with out getting into custome burns.

Well , I am going to try a toggle switch first , If I do not like how that works out then I will resort to either computer tuning or chip replacement. I'll let you guys know what happens.

2 wires and a toggle switch can work wonders. Read the thirdgen post from earlier and you will see what I am going to hook the toggle switch too. If it doesn't work , I will hard wire it back up and seal it up.

im pretty sure that all z28's are non-governed but for any other model they have a limiter, if that l98 didn't come out of one i guess its still governed but i thought that the 350 tpis all came outta z's, i dunno.

Well , I wired a toggle switch to the A-10 brown wire for the ECM harness. Just haven't had the chance to get it up to see if it's a flick of a switch more top end or not. It's kinda in parts and peices right now , re doing my distro. system today - tomorrow - thursday. ( part arrival = delay me. ) BUt as soon as I have those all installed and kicking out juice , I'll take it up parleys canyon and fly to Wyoming or something and see how high it can really push out of the POS automatic.

i'm assuming your running the 305 prom with your 350? if so, that's why it has a speed limiter.

Re: Speed Limiters on a camaro !?!?!

With everything installed , I managed to kick her up to about 125 before hitting 4K on the Tach =D
That toggle switch for the A-10 works good.
