Trans stuck in second gear. HELP!!!
My brothers 92 Stealth seems to only have 2nd gear. It winds out forever but around 50-60 and higher it seems fine. It doesnt downshift or upshift. I hear it can be a solenoid inside the trans but no one knows for sure. I just keep hearing how crappy these were from the factory. This would be the third trans in this car and it has never been beaten. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure I follow, you are saying that he starts it and only drives in 2nd? The trannys aren't bad from the factory, just the synchros have a tendency to get worn down quickly. Does your brother ever try double clutching? If he has 3 transmissions in the car, that seems a bit much for a car never being beaten on...you sure it's not the clutch?

Sorry, I forgot to mention it's an automatic. Seriously, the car has been babied by the last 3 owners and very well taken care of. He had it looked at and they said something about a servo. The computer was tested and it was fine.The trans shop we called had 3 others in at the time for the same reason.

2nd gear is really the only gear you essentially need. so don't worry about it and drive it around and have a ball! |
