supra mkIII n/a question......
i haven't been playing long enought with the car...but the other day i was at the junk yard and i saw this 88 turbo supra...it didn't have a head...but the short block looked alot like the one i have...so my question is.....is it possible to convert a 7mge to a 7mgte with only changinbg the head, intake and adding the turbo? maybe changing the exhaust too?
also...i've read alot baout transimissions....and i was wondering if converting it to manual is worth it? i can do all the work my self....i love shifting..i think it gives you something to do when u r in those bottlenecks in the highway...lol... |

Re: supra mkIII n/a question......
Blocks are slightly different, oil squirters, dual knock sensors, turbo oil return, and a differently mounted oil filter. You'd be going about it the wrong way though, what you should do is buy the wiring harness, ECU, and all the other stuff in the engine bay. Then get the shortblock with no head, use the head from your N/A (because it's the same head) and find the turbo, turbo exhaust manifold, and CPS for it. You can use the n/a intake manifold on a turbo no problem, you just have to fab a mount on a IC pipe for the BOV. Just be carefull though, if the head has been off and sitting in a yard for a long time the block could be trashed, some surface rust can be honed out but you'll have to have a good machine shop look at it. A manual swap is definetly worth it if that's what you like to do, I can't drive auto's because there to boring. Just start pricing the parts you'll need to do a auto/manual swap and see if the money you'll spend doing it will be worth it to you.

thnx alot...i think i'm gonna do it...and as long as the engine is on the floor...why not change the tranny too..right? also..painting...i love painting engine parts...cos it makes it look like what you did was worth it...thnx again for taking the time on answering....and i did my home work about the tranny...have read 1000s of posts about it...and believe me, it looks easy to do...since everyone been saying everything is just bolt on...
thnx again.. funny thing...my supra looks like the one in ur picture..with the black gas lid and all! |

Re: supra mkIII n/a question......
That's cool about our Supes, great minds think alike
Tranny swap is pretty easy, just get all the parts you need and start swapping, the hardest part will probably be getting up under the dash to put the clutch pedal in, still pretty simple though.

Re: supra mkIII n/a question......
well, when u have been able to get and engine out of a car without the use of a hoist and then back in....anything after that is pretty simple...u might know what i am talking about..done it twice...with a mazda 626 and an eclipse 94....the hardets part i find about all of that is getting the grease off from ur fingernails
