Custom fiberglass console

Anyone made a custom console out of fiberglass or any other material?
If so do you have any pictures or suggestions that would help out in building one? I have a 89 Civic HB with a 91 CRX Si console installed, but it leaves a gap at the top right of the console where it meets the dash.

Re: Custom fiberglass console

So basically you want to mold it together? If you fiberglassed it shut, then repainted it, it would be very messy from all the sanding things and such. You couldnt take it out of your car, to do it, it wouldnt come out, would it? Would it fit through the door or back hatch?

Re: Custom fiberglass console

Why wouldn't you be able to take it out of your car?
I'm not wanting to make the console and dash one whole piece. I just want to make a console that fits and doesn't have the gap where it meets the dash. Sorry if I led ya in the wrong direction.
The teg console is an option if you have the original metal console/dash frame for the 89 stock console, but when I bought the car it had the CRX metal console/dash frame and console in it.

Re: Custom fiberglass console

I made one with hardboard, fiberglass, and aluminum that i covered with vinyl. It has ferrari style shift gates :P (They can also be removed)

I'd sell it to any interested party for like $50, I made it to hold gauges, but then decided to mount them in the dash.

I'll see if i have any pics online, otherwise i'll snap some tomorrow.

Re: Custom fiberglass console

try ebay for a JDM/EDM centre console, most of the models over here in the UK, or other honda forums, im sure someone would have on somewhere mate, if u wana go custom then do it , but it seems a lot of work just because it doesnt line up, just go for the genuine parts, they always fit best

Re: Custom fiberglass console

before vinyl:

after vinyl w/o shift gates

Like I said, $50, it needs a little finish work, but I spent ~$50 on parts (plus 2 weeks) making it (trial and error).

Re: Custom fiberglass console

Yeah I did, I would recomend not having a shift gate on the street, our trannies center the lever somewhat once in gear, the gate holds it over, also it slows shifts alot!

I made that one out of .030 aluminum, thicker would be recomended.

I just noticed, in the pic the gate is on wrong. There should be a larger gap between 3-4 and 5-R, than between 1-2 and 3-4.
