Remember the poor gas milage threads on 96 maxima's?

I cant remember who it was that was asking, and I poked around for a bit but couldnt find the threads...

But, as I suggested, it was the Throttle Position Sensor on the throttle body. The $50 part off of autozone.com fixed my gas milage up to about 400 miles to the tank.

Though, while I'm on the topic, anyone know the position for the PCV valve on the 96? My chilton book doesnt give where it goes.

As an update though, my max had a run in with NJ monday morning traffic and ejected a chunk of metal about the size of my open hand from the transmission case. Talk about a "case of the mondays."

Heh.

Word,
spaz

It is mounted on the aluminum intake, recessed between tubes, sort of near the butterfly valve in the throttle body. Easiest to reach with needle nose pliers, or pull it out via the vent hose from the top.

be careful when pulling on the pcv hose. i just pulled mine out last week to check it and clean it and the hose just fell apart. luckily i had some extra silicon hose layin around.

My mileage on my 98 is terrible. I can barely get to 200 miles to a tank. Im going to replace that sensor and see if it helps, I already changed the O2 sensors and the mileage didnt get much better. How many miles did you get to a tank before changing the sensor?

Would make about 230 on 3/4ths of a tank. Now i'm back up to 290-300.
