"Better" is subject to interpretation...but at 225hp/240lb/ft, 0-60 in 7 sec and all the amenities in the SLE, I think the Solara would be a great car. It all depends on your personal preference and what you want to do with the car.

I believe Car and Driver got the RSX Type S 0-60 in about 6.6 seconds. As for the base model I have no idea, probably high 7s or low 8s.

They're three cars that aren't very similar. Mazda3 = rebadged and reskinned Ford Focus. Solara = ugly but its luxurious. Base RSX = sporty but not as fast as the Type S.

Performance and reliability-wise, the Solara is pretty solid, though. Wouldn't trade my S for one, but...

Oh...and one afterthought- I bet with a few mods to the SLE's V6 you could make that sucker cook...

Be different. I'd pick the Solara V6.

Don't let people make fun of you for driving that car either, i've driven one, and i have to say that its not a half assed car and can actually hold its own, and well at that. The low end torque on it is something i'd kill for in my honda.

Re: Solara'04 vs. rsx base'04

My only complaint with the solara is the tercel sized rims (or at least thats how they look compared to the rest of the car). I'd get bigger rims and then
