What do I need to switch to a Manual?

My A2's got well over 300,000km on it, and I was thinking maybe switching it over to a manual transmission, cause this ones getting a bit clunky. I would think its relatively simple, but does anybody know if there are any problems I may run into?

Alot is involved, unless you have a complete donor car I wouldn't attempt it.

really? I am pretty mechanically inclined. What if I just got the stuff from the wrecker? There can't be that much, can there?

i dont think it is extremely difficult, just time consuming. a buddy of mine converted his G60 into a manual. he got the pedal assembly, tranny, cables and ECU. obviously you need to cut some holes in your floorpan and weld some brackets in...good luck if you decide to do it.

Re: What do I need to switch to a Manual?

I could see going to the effort on a G60 as there aren't too many around. Putting that much work into any A2 is questionable - unless there is some sentimental attachment. Don't get me wrong, I love the A2's (my driver is an '86 GTI) and I plan to keep it going as long as possible. Around here A2 Jettas are still fairly common and very cheap, I'd just find a factory manual one.
