2 questions

Ok guys i got 2 questions to ask yall.

1) At what speed do you start NEEDING to have a wing set on the back of your car.

2)My little bro is turning 16 soon, hes trying to convience my parents to get him a good car, he just doesnt know what to ask for. He knows that i race, so he kinda wants to follow the footsteps, ya know? Well, my parents have set a $14,000 limit on the car to get him, what would yall suggest, and be serious about this, he doesnt want an olds or anything like that, just give me a few good ideas of pretty recent cars that he should ask for. He prolly wants around a 97 or up.

hey! don't hate on Olds. the '70 Cutlass 442 stage 1 was one badass car.(or any 442 for that matter)

IMO, you don't need a wing until you're driving over 120 or so and that's all depending on the airflow under the car(negative versus positive atmospheric pressure). on a front wheel drive car, the rear wing provides downforce on the back of the car, thus robbing traction and downforce from the front, unless you have a front air dam(neither of which most modern cars need) the only case where you would really need a wing and an air dam would be on a car with enough torque to create a traction problem at high(90+) speeds, or if you were racing competetively at comstantly high speeds.

most young kids are kinda into imports instead of domestics but it really depends what environment you were brought up in. but no matter it's up to you or him what he wants to do.

i think one of the big things you might want to consider for him is safety. kids tend to drive wrecklessly specially if they race, so make sure get him a car that would at least have some safety features other than just being fast, and unless he's going to be driving over 100mph on the freeway all the time... i don't think there'd be a use for a huge spoiler.

hey now the new olds Alero is kick ass....especially the osv model. but hey try to con him into getting a domestic. they r so much cheaper to fix when they r domestic. he doesnt need a fast car for a first one. my first car was a nissan pulsar nx......with a 240 sx engine but still i hated it. i rather have an olds alero than my prelude at times.

I like Alero's too. They have 6-cyl. engines in them don't they?

I could get some Alero badges and put them on my current car. Then we could trade?

civics are reliable and good for a first car, but they're not that strong and you'll probably lose every race you ever race in

for 14k, try a used accord, most notably the exrs

Exclamation

How about a 300ZX?! My choice personally! Good power, tons of mods, looks great, and very reliable! Oh, and about the wing...unless you are going a long distance at a high speed they are only cosmetic. So let me know what you think.

Well on a FWD never put a wing that is putting downforce on the rear. Only if you are AWD or RWD will you NEED a wing. Any FWD car with a wing either does nothing for it, and if it putting downforce, that person needs to take it off and fix it. You can get front wings, but that would be UGLY.

As for the car. I would suggest anything Nissan, Toyota, or Mutsu that is used.

Really? What year?

I didn't know that any NX shared an engine with the 240.

hey guys,

no offense by the olds statement, but i do like the alero its pretty cool, the wings question was one for me, thanks for the ideas for my brother, i dont think he wants to lose every race so i wont let him get a civic, no offense civic owners, there good if you can put some cash into em, but other than that... um, ... yeah. i have a 3000gt,(i know what your thinking: heavy car) i got it lightened a lot and have a few good mods that push me up past 130, so i think im gonna get a rear wing cause i think it would help, maybe no, but it will look cool anyways...
