looking for info on a chrysler cd/tape/am/fm player
ok i have unearthed a chrysler model # P04704383AD stereo on my garage that i beleive was taken out of a 90-00 dakota because the owner was wanting a different radio installed it still had the plastic protective wrapping on the screen to keep it from being scratched wall being shiped and intalled when i found it in my garage. i have since put it in a 87 town and country (k car wagon) with (2) stock front 3" speakers and aftermarket 15w 6x9's in the rear (2) and after a while the stereo heats up and cuts out.
are the rear speakers to powerful for the radio? are the stock wireing to wimpy and are screwing up the stereo? if anyone has any info on this stereo please post a response. |

Re: looking for info on a chrysler cd/tape/am/fm player
I don't have info on your radio , but alot of the factory stereo's used stock speakers with an ohm rating of 16 , while most after market speakers are rated at 8 or 4 ohms . If indeed the factory radio is set for 16 ohm load then the lower 8 or 4 ohm aftermarket speakers will make the amplifier in the factory stereo run hard regardless of the volume setting get hot and shut down . Without getting in to a full lenth discussion suffice it to say an amplifier has to see a certain load to operate properly , if it doesn't see the proper load then it just runs wild........Hope this helps

Re: looking for info on a chrysler cd/tape/am/fm player
Your wiring is DIFFERENT. Even though the plugs are the same, the front and rear speakers are connected in a different order! this changed somewhere around '90 or '91.
Also, the dash speakers in the Town and Country wagon are Crap. You can replace them easily by removing the dash panel, which will take a little time. I'd change all 4 speakers in the car, and eliminate the cross-wired front-to-back issue at the same time! If you're not going to spend the time to fix it right, don't put it back in the car, it will burn up in a short period of time. Look on the radio's and look at the jack pinouts and compare them! You'll see... Slantsixness

thanks i have been thinking of putting speakers in the front doors instead of the dash because there is already a pocket for them in the front of the door it would fit some 4-5 inch speakers but they canonly be at the man of 2 inch deep
do they make speakers like that for a resonalbe price? |

Re: looking for info on a chrysler cd/tape/am/fm player
Check
www.crutchfield.com for the speakers that'll fit. On the Kcars, sometimes I've used spacers to space the 5 1/2" round speakers off the door panels to accomodate the depth, but then you end up kicking the speakers when getting out of the car, or hitting your shin. There are some Infinity speakers that work well and are shallow enough to fit in the doors.
