Speedo inop intermittantly
I have a 1992 Civic DX. Five speed trans. The speedo will work for awhile then drop to 0. It stays there for awhile then starts operating normally. I have Ford experience but not much Honda. I know that it is electronic not cable, I think I found the speed sensor on the tranny. Is it more likley the speed sensor or a cluster problem? How would you test the speed sensor for proper operation? Is it a hall effect sensor, potentiometer, or what? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Speedo inop intermittantly
Definitly a speedo sensor problem. I replaced the tranny on my friends '91 Si and his speedo didn't work. All I did was tighten the sensor in some more and it worked fine. Check the wiring and tightness of the sensor, shouldn't be too hard to fix. Good luck.

Re: Speedo inop intermittantly
Not yet. I drove the other day and it was working for awhile. Then it stopped. I went to gas station and unplugged the connector on the trans speed sensor and plugged it back in. Drove again and it worked fine again.
