Chipping early DME's

It was brought to my attention that early DME's are chippable by 930guy. This has caused me to rescind my earlier statements.

www.frwilk.com sells a board to chip them. It requires the removal of three other chips from the DME and soldering in a board to accomodate whoevers chip you choose. Some misc solder jumpering is aslo required from the looks of the pages.

The only drawback from this method I've read is that you cant use aftermarket MAF kits without a $339 signal translater on the Early DME's at all. http://www.splitsec.com/pricelist.htm - PSC1-009

So I'll say this. Go with the late DME (chippable) if you want the MAF kit (who doesn't?), or chip the early DME. I'll try it out on my sisters car!

Anybody know of a cheaper signal calibrater?
