smooth ride

My 00 Camry, I feel every bump in the road. How do I get the orig smooth ride back? Replace the struts?

Original tires or replacements? Tire pressure? What is your recommended tire pressure, as shown in the door?

Recommended tire pressure should be anywhere between 30 - 40 p.s.i. Also, you might want to try and tighten your struts up a little bit. I had been dealing with that same problem for the longest time in my Camry until I finally got around to tightening the strut towers up, then I had that same smooth ride the car had the day we got it.

Is the strut tower tightening documented in the manual? I just had mine replaced, and they're way more noisy than the originals (which were probably good anyways). If not can you share your method? Thanks.

The strut tower tightening isn't documented in the service section of your manual. I almost actually ended up replacing the ones I have now until I decided to get out there and tighten them up a bit to see if I couldn't have one last attempt to get them to work again before shelling out all that cash. As far as the method goes, it's rather simple.

1. Pop your hood.
2. Locate where the struts come up into the engine bay.
3. Note that there are three (or more) bolts encircling the black plastic top around the strut tower. You'll need to check and see that these are tight.
4. Inside of the black circle in the middle of the tower, all you need to do is spray this nut with pentrating oil, let it set for about 5-10 minutes, and then put a socket and a breaker bar on it. Turn in about 1/4 increments of a full turn until you hear the rubber creaking.

BTW - it also might help to jack each side while tightening each strut to help restore factory ride height. I did this and noticed at least a half an inch lift.
