Took out a V8

I am at the local starbucks in my town and this guy yells out your car club sucks. Me and my friends in the car club are like yeah ok whatever. My friend said he knew the guy and said he's a real punk. Well later that night I see the guy on the main street that everybody races on, well since the guy popped off at the mouth about are car club. I wanted to race him and see if I could shut him up. So I roll up next to him on the road( his car is a 1966 I think not sure about the year but he had a 289 w/auto with flows not sure if he had anything else done to the car. For those of you who don't know what my car is its a 97 V6 mustang automatic with exhaust and intake.) I'm rolling next to him at 50mph I look over at him and lurch forward to see if I can get him to race me and then I slowed back down 50mph to get next to him and then he punched it and so did I and I pulled on him by half a car and it stayed like that until 80mph when he shut down.

well the old 66 ford mustangs with 289's run the quarter in 17.9 seconds, whereas you have a V6 and its an auto and yet it runs the quarter in 17.3.
I'd say its a lot to do with the extra weight those old stangs are carrying but good kill man, i woulda raced him too and taught him a lesson if he was shooting off his mouth like that.

Actually you could get different 289s in 1966:

200 I6 120 bhp.
289 V8 200 bhp.
289 V8 225 bhp.
289 V8 271 bhp.
(GT-350) 289 V8 306 bhp.
(GT-350R) 289 V8 360 bhp

First of all nice kill and especially since the guy had been doing crap talking a little earlier but dont you think that a heavy muscle car with a measly 289 is really a good strong running v-8, im not trying to start anything so dont take it that way. In the technicall aspect yes it was a v-8 but compared to the other makers back then it is pretty low. Hey if you live in the southern california area maybe i could give you a run for your money.

where about in SoCal?

I live right below yucaipa and right above banning. Just incase you dont know where those small towns are i am right below ontario which is close to pomona and right above palm springs. If you really want to race go to the white water road exit on friday nights and saturday nights we meet at the gas station one exit down from there, we met at the station at twelve. I dont want to go to the pomona races though because because of the whole impounding cars crap, i dont want my baby acutioned off to some brand new driver and have him wrap it around a telephone pole. If you go out to the palm springs races though look for a triton V-8 super charged F-150, a BMW 328i stock or my 1972 chevrolet nova. I sometimes dont race sometimes i just go to watch.

The '66 Mustang isn't a very heavy car, that was when they were still Falcon based. Pretty respectable cars if you build them right.

My uncle had a '65 Falcon, with a built 289 that came out of a GT350. He stripped the thing out, and had good success racing it. The only car that ever beat him was a 426 'Cuda, but those cars ran 13 seconds stock.

When I had my former Cobra I saw some heap on the road. It was a 60'ish stang. The dude was driving rather annoyingly. I punched it to get passed him. I was amazed when I noticed that he hanged with my former Cobra. I believe it was a Hi Po stang. They are supposedly good for 14's. Anyways good kill author.

First generation mustangs are actually very light. Curb weight for a 1966 mustang (I'm assuming it's a coupe that is listed) says 2,940 lbs.

Minium curb weight listed for a 1997 mustang is 3,084 lbs. I'm guessing that means the V6 and that the V8 is more like 3,200 or so. My friend has a 1991 5.0 that he's kept stock and it's real heavy... around 3,300 or so.

The 289 V8 is no slouch either... my guess is it was just tired (as are many old 289 V8's. I should know, I used to have one!). So good race.

In my comparison i should have made it clearer, i mean it is pretty heavy for now a days back then i will agree it was a pretty light car but if you compare it to the cars of today it is heavy, and i know what you guys are gonna say, "it not really fair to compare old cars to new cars cause the materials they used to make them and the way they made them makes them heavier", and yes i once again agree that it is an unfair comaparison if you put them on the same horsepower range but if you are going to race the good old muscle cars (which i love doing sooooo much, i just cant stand all the newer cars. 74 and older please ) you have to put a nice beffy motor like a built 350 you cant have a ricer size motor in a muscle car it just doesnt work (and im not putting down imports when i say ricers).
