Stock speaker upgrade

i was wondering if anyone has just upgraded the factory speakers and left the factory deck in? i guess there wouldnt be a noticable increase in power, but is the overall sound better? the factory speakers dont handle much response. another thing, has anyone hooked up a sub/amp with a line converter to the factory deck? if so how did it sound, or would replacing the factory cd player be the only way around this. i got an 04, and kinda like the factory look. thanks guys!

Re: Stock speaker upgrade

I like the factory look also. I replaced all of my speakers with aftermarket "seperate" speakers. It sounded a little better than stock. Then I hooked up an amp to the speakers. That made a HUGE difference. Sounds as good or better than an aftermarket deck, with the exception of having no equalizer built into my stock deck. Then I hooked up another amp and 2 10" subs.

So yeah... if you do it right... it will sound great!

Invest in a Haynes manual for your truck. Will outline step by step the procedure for taking apart the door and getting to the speakers. You'll see that it's relatively simple and the manual is worth it's weight in gold!

I left the Factory deck (mostly cause Im poor) and replaced all the speakers with Memphis Audio Carbon edition speakers and they sound awsome!! The low end was not so much louder but very clear, the highs although are insainly loud now. That factory deck has some power. But Yea subs will be the only way to get that Thumping base. Maybe a bass Tube or something if you dont want to lose the room.

AlaskanZ71 --

never heard of memphis audio, are they high end or a newer company? been out of the car audio scene for a few yrs. the audio shop i go to was telling me to replace the deck...but i think they just wanna sell me more. the replacement speakers i was looking at are clarions. maybe i should check out the memphis? is the response from the speakers still relatively clear at a higher volume or is it distorted?

Re: Stock speaker upgrade

I had a 4 channel amp for my speakers and a 2 channel amp for my 2 10's. The speakers weren't that hard to get at. The front door panels have a couple visable screws to take out, then you just lift the panel upwards and it comes right off. Not sure about your back speakers... because I have a 4 Door.

Memphis Audio is the leader in HIGH end Quality and performance, I have always wanted a set of there Subs but i have yet to accuire the grand that i would need for one. They have been around for atleast 10 years, Um you dont need a new deck. the factory one is awsome. and the back speakers on a X cab like mine are very easy to get to the screw in the cup holder and handle and Vwalla. I prefer Memphis Audio or even Boston Accoustics if you can find a dealer there awsome as well Please dont buy sony, or kenwood, or something cheap becuse the factory ones are most likely better!!

Re: Stock speaker upgrade

I beg to differ about the Kenwood, and SOny being cheap. I'm a part-time car-audio designer/installer and Sony makes some kick ass products. Granted you don't have to spend a grand on one sub, but I guarantee you they will satisfy you if you just don't get the low end stuff like they sell at wal-mart.

I second the not buying the walmart selection and I also agree with the fact that sony makes some kick ass products. But I have mostly seen the folks with the walmart stuff, I hope everyone knew what i ment, sony and kenwood are great companies although they have been down due to the selection mostly at hand, like that which is avalible at walmart.
