2.4 vs 2.3?
hi, I have a 1995 grand am with a quad-4
when I look online at info on them. It is always listed as a 2.3L engine that produces 145lbs torque. now when I pop my hood and look at it, it says it is a 2.4L. I have looked online and 96 and newer are 2.4 and produce 155lbs torque. my question is basicaly if anyone knows if they made a 2.4L engine in 95 and if not, I guess I have a 96 or better engine which would better explain the low milage, but still kinda bother me cause it isnt the orginal any help on this one would be much apperciated |

Re: 2.4 vs 2.3?
Check your VIN and it should say the year of the vehicle.

95' Grand Am's had 5 engine options available, But they 4 of them are 2.3L and one is a 3.3L , if you have a 2.4 it sounds like someone put a new engine in the car, which isn't all that bad, cuz now you have a better, and newer engine. If you are curious do what Slade said which is Check the VIN.
there is a possibility if your 95 was produced later in the year that they put a 2.4 in it, cuz GM is known to put things in car's that normally aren't in that specific car.

Re: 2.4 vs 2.3?
Manufacturing dates are located in the drivers door on an ugly ass sticker and on the trunk spare wheel cover. It will have a date of manufacture in there on the top , if it says 09/15/95 then its most likely a 96 model put out in late 95. If its under 06/30/95 then its most likely a 95 made late in the year for supply to dealers , most new year models are made early before the year comes. Show me your manufacturing date and i can tell you.
