Fuel pump and injector install ??
well here's the deal... I finally got my evoIII 16g ported out and installed, and I'm in the process of doing the fiberglassing and installation of the s-afcII and the profec b and turbo timer... it should turn out really sweet. if I could only get some damn time and energy!
My question is this, now that I have all these things installed, how hard is it to install my pump and injectors myself? I looked on vfaq.com at the pump install.. it looks a lot more complicated than I thought it should be. I dunno. I might have someone do it for me. As far as the injectors go... I'm running 680cc ball type injectors. what all do I need to do to install them? I have limited knowledge of this kind of stuff. I do bolt on stuff and body work. this is new to me. can someone give me a link to directions or tell me how to do it? or do you think I"d be better off paying someone to do it. I'd really like to do it myself. I wanna learn as much of this stuff as possible. thanks for your unput...

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
Despite the fact that you'll get wet and smell funny, the pump install looks pretty simple. There are only a few steps, but you'll end up taking up some time since it's not something you'd want to mess up. Just get at the pump, unbolt it, lift the assembly out, and replace the pump on the assembly. On the other side, being relatively quick compared to a 10 day custom job, the pump shouldn't even take that much labor if you decide to get it done without the mess.

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
so basically all I'm doing is bleeding the lines, pulling off the fuel rail and popping in the new injectors? sounds simple enough if thats really it. I know I can do it... I'm just paranoid about jacking somethin up. I've spent too much money and time for something to go wrong cause I didn't know what I was doing. thanks for the diagrams though joe. they helped. Good info. BTW, where do you guys keep getting this shit? you said somethin about a cd or somethin. Can somebody tell me where to get it? VFAQ.com is nice... but a cd or manual or somethin would be nice too. Thanks again! I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
http://www.ecanfix.com/~manualcd/index2.htm is the link to the DSMonCD service manual. It doesn't say every step to install something, they expect you to know all the basics.

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
IF you have the white ring of death holding the pump in, make sure you are well rested, sober, and have some patience. It can be a bitch. It will screw on straight eventually, but it can be frustrating. If its bolted in (1g, 2g fwd perhaps), you dont have to worry about this. Breaking the line free is worth taking aminute to do right. Once it stipped youre on your own. Use line wrenches, plenty of lube, and kick some ass. Have fun.

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
Thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna go to autozone today and pick up a good set of gear wrenches and some line wrenches. I know I'll need them in the future and I have the money now. so why not right? Does anyone know the exact sizes that I should pick up? (in case I can't get them in a set) or do you know a cheaper place to get them from? Thanks again for the help guys! I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
Hi guys. I own a '97 GST and I also want to do some work myself, but I'm a complete noob when coming to cars (except driving
), what would you guys recommend me to get? I looked at the DSMonCD but I really need something with the basics, like step by step instructions, so I just need the tools and the manual. Is Chilton manual or something like that more useful for me? Thanks! |

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
I believe the sizes for the fuel line fittings are 14mm and 19mm.

Re: Fuel pump and injector install ??
Just be sure you break it free at hte lower end of the line, under the car. The top fitting is too risky, you could easily ause a leak at the pump housing, and those are pretty damn expensive. Could still be 17mm, but its going to be under the car.
