Drag racing with stock blackies...
I'm trying to decide if I should buy new rims for the strip or just use the stock blackies I currently have. They're 14"...I think everyone knows what I'm talking about. If I decide to get slicks, would putting them on the stockies work fine or should I go and get new rims just for the strip?
Also, if I use slicks, do I have to make any other mods so that it doesn't snap anything when I launch? I've read some stuff about something breaking because the car had too much power and the slicks were just too sticky. Any help/suggestions would be great. Thanks. |

Re: Drag racing with stock blackies...
Steelies are pretty thin and real heavy. You should look into a set of Lensos, or some VX rims.

Re: Re: Drag racing with stock blackies...
Drag racing wheels would be ideal.
It all depends on how much power you honestly pushing. First to upgrade should be motor mounts because those will tear & the more the engine moves the less the power getting to the ground. 250hp & up at the wheels will require aftermarket axles such as TCI's. Front subframe/traction bars isnt a bad idea IF NEEDED. |

Re: Drag racing with stock blackies...
Well, I'm not planning on changing the stock rotors. Would those be considered "small enough"?
I found some 13" Weld wheels. Would fit my car as far as width goes? http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...64&prmenbr=361 And I'm looking at either the M&H or MT slicks... http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...74&prmenbr=361 http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...48&prmenbr=361 Now, I'm just taking a stab at this, but from the numbers on those tires, I assume the 8.0/22.0-13 from the M&H and the 22.0 x 8.0-13 from the MT's will fit those Weld wheels. Can I even go with wider slicks? The first time I take my car to the track, it will probably be completely stock. I just dropped in a B18A with no mods what so ever. Do I even need slicks yet? At what point do you say it's time to get some slicks? Should I just get the Weld wheels first and put some decent street tires on them? Or should I just stick to the blackies until I start making some mods to the engine (i.e. turbo)? |
