daikin clutch

i bought a clutch off of ebay. it said exedy clutch for "buy-it-now" $199. which is a great deal. siad nothing about "Diakin" anywhere. so i ordered one. i got a Diakin clutch shipped to me. i immediately sent the seller a "hey what's the deal..." email. i got an email back saying, Diakin is Exedy. i researched a little and found out that Diakin is an American subsidiary of Exedy and the parts are produced in Exedy factories, but that doesn't always mean that it's exactly the same thing. i was just wondering if you guys know anything about the quality of Diakin, and if i got screwed on this deal. they didn't say one word about Diakin in their auction.

I had an exedy clutch for about 4 months, after a lot of racing, that clutch is smoooooooth. I went with Spec this time, this thing is solid.

okay thanks....but that doesn't answer my question. and after racing a lot any clutch will be "smoooooth".

Not necessarly true, if you have a high torque capacity clutch, its goingke a lot more to wear it down. In part, i did answer your question. If exedy and diakin and exedy are the samecompany and i said that my clutch went smooth after a few months, im saying that the clutch isnt too good.

how did you answer it in part? you said exedy was a sub-par clutch. here's the thing though man....i asked if anybody knew about the quality of "Daikin" clutches. not if Exedy was a good clutch or not. of course if they're similar clutches Daikin won't be good if Exedy isn't. And yes, of course it will take longer to wear down a higher capacity clutch...that's just common sense man. i was saying any clutch will wear down faster (be smooooth) if you're racing a lot, than if you're not racing. the higher capacity clutch will just take a little longer to wear down. that has little to do with the quality of the clutch.

If you have a clutch rated at for well over 300 ft/lbs and you wear it down from racing in just a few months in a car with just barely 300hp/tq then there is something wrong. When parts, generally, produced from a company that has a subsidiary, usually the parts are the same if not exactly. How exactly do you think a daikin clutch will differ from an exedy? Hell, how about exedy to fidanza. Im tell you that the quality of a Daikin clutch is more than likely going to be sub-par. Why does it really matter anyways, you already bought the clutch, might as well use it. I think you got screwed.

yeah i just put it in the WRX yesterday. the clutch is supposed to be rated at 450 ft/lbs. i was checking out the daikin site. they seem to be pretty good clutches. plus, i'm not planning on putting more than 300 hp/tq. in my car. i'm going to stay around the 285-290 mark. i have a friend who is an engineer, and has been working with subarus for a few years now. he said once you get over 290-300 hp/tq, you really shorten the life of the WRX. so, for my purposes it should be a good clutch, and i only paid $200 for it, compared to the retail $500 for the Exedy. i think i'm going to send this question to the guys at Gruppe-S or Vishnu. thanks for the feedback though man, appreciate it.

Yea, especially on the tranny itself, i think its rated max for 280, anything after that you have to be carefull. I've started having a few which i expected, its not too bad. I put some lucas in there and it holds the parts together better but thats only a temp fix for me.
