Completely Off The Wall Question!!!

Ok...Before you bust my balls , the car was free and I did post this question in two different forums. I didn't get a intelligent response from either of them...so here it goes!

"I just acquired a 1974 Mustang II (2.8L V6). It had not been driven in 3 years and seemed to be in good shape. I know nothing about carbureted vehicles and need some help. The motor runs perfect (in my opinion). The problem I am having is the transmission is not shifting properly. I was told that the shifts are controlled by manifold vacuum. I have random fittings with no lines and I am LOST! The vehicle shifts late about 800 - 900 rpm's after I feel that it should. It also seems like the last person working on the vehicle had no idea what they were doing. I can post a picture if it would make your life easier. I just need to find out what lines control the transmission. The fluid was just flushed and filled."

I realize that this has absolutely NOTHING to do with eclipses but I thought that someone in here might know. I can't find a vacuum diagram anywhere....unless I pay $59 for it. Someone said that I can just plug lines in to corresponding fittings (ex. find one that is vacuum and plug it into a fitting that blows ). I just thought that someone in here might have some experience with carbureted vehicles and could point me in the right direction. I know this is a long post and a really "wacked out" question ...., but thanks!

There should be a linkage on the carb that relays throttle postition in order to downshift the tranny when you floor it. If this is out of alignment it could mess things up abit. I had a similar problem W/ my chevy. Buy the manual, it should tell you in more detail how to abjust this, if that doesn't help, call a specialist, tell them what's up and they will usually give you some T/S tips.

Would I call a carb shop for this?? Also, my friend found an extra fitting that I didn't see...this makes 4! So we hooked up the one on the top of the carp to the bottom of the air cleaner assembly. We capped off 2 of the other ones on the carb. The only thing left is a black plastic fitting on the firewall. There are two nipples on each side of the fitting (it seems like they are seperated, meaning the 2 on the right are not connected to the 2 on the left). The two on the right are hooked up (1 to the tranny and one somewhere else). On the left there is one to the tranny and the other is capped. Also on the back of the carb...right above the intake manifold there are 3 large fitting..almost in a "w" shape. One has a fitting that is plugged several times (it looks like a tree), the one in the center has a hose that is capped (it looks like this should go to the valve cover), and the one on the right has nothing on it.
