Better oil grade for GC 96?

I have a GC Laredo, v6, and i am wondering what grade of oil is the best? The OEM specifications say 10-30, but i drive around 110 miles a day. My car has currently 20-50 Castrol GTX, which i heard is good for cars with 100k or more miles. I was wondering if lower grades would be better or should i change to synthetic oil?

Hi. I have a 97 jgc 4.0 and I use 10-30 in the warmer months and 5-30 in the winter. If it doesn't burn it just stick with the 10-30. You shouldn't need synthetic if all is well with your engine and you change it every 3,000 miles. I also drive 100 miles per day to/from work so it gets changed often.

I totally agree with cbftbi87 also IMO stay away from synthetic oil because it will seep out from gaskets and what a mess it is.
Castrol oil and AC oil filter(helps eliminate valvetrain noise) works for my 94 GC with 148K.

I have a 96 JGC with over 141000 miles. I'm using Valvoline Max Life 10W-30. Seems to work great for me.

I have an '04 Grand Cherokee, and I have been using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic since I bought it, cause I figured in the long run it would be better..... but that's just me.

I have a 96 GCL, I use Valvaline Max Life 10w/30 and a can of 6 cylinder restore. I have changed the oil 4 times in 6 months, I have 178,000 and drove over 5000 miles in less than a month. I am very happy with the perfomance of the oil and restore.

Re: Better oil grade for GC 96?

Any comments on using 10w-40? It's hot, here (lots of 90 degree days)... also, I've got some kind of a drip leak I need to know more about. I used 10w-40 on an old truck that had a leaking rear main and loose valve guides. I definitely added fewer quarts to keep the level up versus 10w-30.

10w-40 is not the recommended oil vis for my '95 gc (123k miles) and I want to know if it could do any damage.
